Sandra Newsom grew up in a small town located in the Mississippi Delta. In high school, she completed her studies a year early and was recognized as the valedict​orian of her graduating class. Sandra attended Delta State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a focus in Biology. During her first year as a biology teacher at Southaven High School, Sandra was selected to join a committee for the Mississippi State Board of Education. During her tenure on the committee, Sandra developed an academic curriculum for Anatomy and Physiology intended for implementation at the high school level throughout the state of Mississippi.  

After teaching for 9 years, Sandra’s passion for education and helping others led her to pursue a career in healthcare. Sandra attended the University of Tennessee, Memphis where she began studying at the College of Nursing. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, she decided to further her education and earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Sandra became credentialed as a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 1996. Over the next 10 years, Sandra provided outstanding patient care and contributed her expertise in several administrative roles at the Byhalia Family Health Center in Byhalia, MS. 

In 2008, Sandra achieved her lifelong goal by opening her own medical clinic, Newsom Healthcare of Desoto County, LLC. For the last 18 years, Newsom Healthcare has continued to provide excellent quality medical care to Desoto County residents, particularly the Horn Lake community where Sandra has lived for 40 years.   Everyone is treated like family at Newsom Healthcare.
